What Chinese head media’s opinion on Polkadot？

In order to get a new perspective, we invited several senior media people in the industry to form a “Media Observer Group”. They came from Chainnews, 橙皮书, Odaily, 白话区块链, 8btc.com and 索老头. From the perspective of professional media people, they talked about their views on Polkadot, Gavin and Blockchain.
As a media man, what aspect do you think is the important to judge a project? And What’s your opinion on Polkadot?

We once wrote in an article, said in literary criticism, someone once put forward the “Golden Line Theory”, saying that there is a golden line that distinguishes the merits of literary works, “The people outside the door are invisible. For the discerning people, they are clear-cut and insightful.”. In this analogy, we think that the blockchain projects can also use this term to divide the project quality with a subtle and cruel “golden line”.
This “golden line” can be a comprehensive indicator of these factors: technological innovation, network effect, economic model, market performance, community consensus and other factors are all variables of this golden line. Projects that have been achieved can lead the trend, and the strong ones will remain strong; projects that have not been achieved are likely to face the risk of being eliminated.
This golden line is a more mysterious metaphor, but I often ask myself: is the current valuation model of blockchain really effective? Do the “good” projects that the “insiders” think of is really a good projects? Can they capture the value?
Therefore, as a media man, the most important thing is to select topics close to the market, serve the market, keep a certain distance, and learn and grow together with the market.
As far as I’m concerned, Polkadot is undoubtedly a heavyweight PoS project and one of the star projects in 2020. From the perspective of the community, we also found that Polkadot’s eco construction and development progress, which are full of expectations and halos, are not disappointing. Althought the mainnet is not live yet, but it has a strong community and ecosystem construction.

We think there are three main aspects of a projects：
- What problems the project really solves and what value it brings
- Team background and technical strength
- Success rate of the project to achieve their vision
Polkadot already has a good expectation in the space, which brings a lot of new concepts and possibilities to the blockchain. Meanwhile, the team development level is very high, so we are confident that Polkadot will gradually realize its vision in the future.

The focus of course is the heat of the project and the impact on the industry.
Polkadot, a king project, has position of strength, capital supports and topics to discuss. Even though the project hasn’t been launched yet, I think most people in the currency circle have heard or know Polkadot, which is also a project that all media will pay attention to.

Technology: team background, development progress and efficiency, landing degree, published roadmap and final vision.
Business: landing scenarios, cooperation projects, users, economic model design, token distribution (private offering, public offering, lockdrop, etc.), depth and trend of secondary market transactions.
We believe that Polkadot is a project connecting the preceding and the following, representing the next generation of blockchain. The existence and development of Parity make you expect the development direction of blockchain world.

Polkadot is very popular in China, the mainly reason is the founder Dr.Gavin Wood. I think most of the industry participants expect themselves to be able to pledge to the next Ethereum. And Polkadot has well aimed at the cross chain track, it is natural for it to become the forerunner of this track. However, in the short term, personally, I do not have too much expectation for cross chain, the demand is very small.

The time Gavin come to China again maybe is after the mainnet live in the second half of the year. This time we want to talk about some practical topics. Including the technical progress at that time: developer ecosystem, validators situation, solution to interoperability in practical application, application progress and layout direction, as well as the marketing problems that ordinary users will care about: expectation of currency token price, staking situation, liquidity, etc.
Both Polkadot and Ethereum 2.0 will live this year. What’s your opinion on the development of these two projects after the net lauched?

Polkadot can’t be the killer of Ethereum for now. Ethereum 2.0 will be a huge social experiment. What happens after PoW turns to PoS will be interesting.

Ethereum 2.0 will be carried out in many stages. It is not realistic to achieve the expected effect in a short time, but the challenges on the way to PoS are still very big, and there will be many problems. The more difficult problem is not from technology development, but from community governance and development inertia.
Polkadot’s live is point to Ethereum, but it is not realistic to say that it can shake the status of Ethereum in a short time. The advantages of Ethereum’s developing ecosystem and application popularity are still too big. Taking advantage of the period of Ethereum 2.0 is a good opportunity. It is a smarter choice to gain absolute advantages in a market segment or use case.

If Ethereum 2.0 and Polkadot are successfully launched this year, I think it is a great benefit for the whole PoS field. As for how they develop after launched , we pay more attention to whether Ethereum 2.0 can smoothly handle the reasonable arrangement of PoS mechanism and original PoW mechanism, as well as the development and application of the field of DeFi in the future. As for Polkadot, we pay more attention to the respective future of Polkadot and Cosmos, which are cross chain projects.
At present, it seems that the community foundation of Polkadot is very complete, and the whole eco strategy is also very extensive. We are very looking forward to the mainnet launched development of these two projects.
Of course, it should also be pointed out that many analyses have shown that Ethereum 2.0 and Polkadot are very similar, but also complementary. In theory, it is possible for DAPP of Ethereum to connect to other platforms through bridging with Polkadot without losing users or migrating smart contracts, which is good for both projects.
As the head media in China, what do you think is the direction of blockchain industry this year?

From a personal point of view, the expectation is DeFi and DEX in this year. Of course, security accidents will continue to happen. In the short term, there may also be conceptual small outbreaks in cross chain, but the actual application remains to be observed.

Recently, the market has plummeted, and everyone is confused about the future of blockchain industry again. But I am full of hope for the future of blockchain.
The first may be the performance of BTC reduce by half. After the epidemic, the follow-up trend of bitcoin in 2020 should return to normal.
The second is that with the launch of Polkadot, the cross chain solutions that we have been expecting for more than a year will be implemented one after another, and wonder that whether they can bring a new milestone.
The third is that the supervision of various countries began to release the friendly policies towards cryptocurrencies, and the industry gradually ushered in more growth space after compliance.

BTC reduce by half is a hot spot that has to be mentioned, but I think it has been watered down this week due to the collapse of the environmental impact. There is no difference between the overall hot spot direction and that of last year, and there is no exciting new thing for me.
I think the DeFi, DAO and Web3.0 of last year will continue and increase their influence this year. Of course, with the launch of Polkadot, Ethereum 2.0, Cardano and Dfinity, the market of staking will be rocked.
