Around 15:53 on October 13th, the Kusama 11th parachain slot auction was ended! Afterward, a random “roll of the dice” for about 35 minutes to determine the final winner. At 17:28, Kintsugi, Interlay’s Canary network won the 11th slot with 199,999.9 KSM locked in their crowdloan. And it will be connected to the Kusama relaychain and produce blocks as a Kusama parachain in 2 hours.

At this point, Kusama’s second round of auction has all ended! In the next step, Kusama will suspend Auction and Crowdloan, observe the stability of the network, then open the third round Auction.

Now, 12 parachains are connected with the Kusama network, including the common good parachain Statemine which got a free slot through governance, and 11 auction parachains, namely Karura, Moonriver, Shiden, Khala, Bifrost, KILT, Calamari, Basilisk, Altair, Heiko, and Kintsugi. Learn all details here.

2,464,000 KSMs are locked in parachains slot and active crowdloans, accounting for 21.29% of the total KSM. So there are 63.29% KSM locked in the whole network, since the staking rate is 42%.

Meet all parachains below!

Statemine

Statemine is the Kusama version of Statemint. It is the first parachain on Kusama and a common good parachain allocated a free slots by governance. It is actually a very simple chain, without too many fancy things. It is not as complicated as a relaychain or a smart contract chain. It is just a chain used to create and manage assets, including both Fungible assets and Non-Fungible Token (NFT).

Karura

Karura is the all-in-one DeFi hub of Kusama. Founded by the Acala Foundation, Karura is a scalable, EVM-compatible network optimized for DeFi. The platform offers a suite of financial applications including: a trustless staking derivative (liquid KSM), a multi-collateralized stablecoin backed by cross-chain assets (kUSD), and an AMM DEX — all with micro gas fees that can be paid in any token.

Moonriver

Moonriver is led by the community and is fully compatible with Ethereum! Moonriver is the easiest entry point to build applications on Kusama. Like its sister network Moonbeam, the Moonriver smart contract platform has full Ethereum compatibility beyond EVM, and can easily use popular Ethereum developer tools to build or redeploy Solidity projects in a Substrate-based environment.

Shiden

Shiden is a multi-chain decentralized application layer on the Kusama network. The Kusama relaychain does not support smart contract functions by design. The Kusama network needs a smart contract layer, which is what the Shiden network does. Shiden has supported Ethereum virtual machine, WebAssembly and Layer2 solutions from the beginning. The platform supports various applications, such as DeFi, NFT, etc.

Khala

Khala is the pioneer network deployed by Phala Network on Kusama network. Khala will be deployed on Kusama as a parachain to serve innovative and growing blockchains, DeFi and other scenarios that require privacy.

Bifrost

Bifrost is the Polkadot ecosystem DeFi protocol. It is committed to becoming an infrastructure for pledged assets to provide liquidity. It has launched a derivative vToken for staking and Polkadot Crowdloan. vToken can optimize trading in multiple scenarios such as DeFi, DApp, DEX, CEX, and realize the transfer channel of pledge rights such as Staking and Crowdloan through vToken, realize the risk hedging of pledge assets, and expand scenarios such as vToken as collateral for borrowing, its staking income Part of the interest can be offset to achieve low-interest loans.

KILT Protocol

KILT is an open-source blockchain protocol for issuing self-sovereign, anonymous and verifiable credentials for Web 3.0. KILT enables innovative business models around identity and privacy, addressing the need for reliable identity solutions in the digital world. It allows users to claim personal attributes, have them attested by trusted entities, and store the claims as self-sovereign credentials. KILT Protocol is developed by BOTLabs GmbH in Berlin and is the technology on which SocialKYC, a decentralised identity verification service, is built.

Calamari Network

Calamari Network is the official canary network of Manta Network, the privacy protocol built for the DeFi stack. Deployed on Kusama, Calamari will service private transacting and private swapping for all parachain assets on Kusama, including KSM.

Basilisk

Basilisk is a liquidity bootstrapping protocol built for Kusama. Its mission is to enable frictionless liquidity for the long tail crypto assets. Basilisk has close ties with HydraDX which has set out to become the go-to liquidity provider on the Polkadot network. Together, Basilisk and HydraDX create a synergy which caters to the varying liquidity needs of cryptoassets throughout their entire lifecycle. Bootstrap liquidity in the early stages using a Basilisk AMM, then move on to the HydraDX Omnipool to unlock unprecedented cross-chain liquidity in an ocean of assets.

Altair

Altair is one of the fastest spinning stars in the galaxy, and is also the bridge from Centrifuge to Kusama. You will now be able to tokenize real-world assets and finance them on the Kusama network. Altair combines the industry-leading infrastructure built by Centrifuge to finance real-world assets (RWA) on Centrifuge Chain, with the newest experimental features — before they go live on Centrifuge Chain. It is the network for users who want to test the bounds of asset financing. From art NFTs to undiscovered assets — Altair enables users to tokenize their most experimental assets and finance them. It is the next step for anyone looking to unlock financing for their assets.

Kintsugi

Kintsugi is interBTC’s canary network (an early and highly experimental version of interBTC where new features and risk-friendly parameterizations will be released first and tested). Kintsugi brings radically open Bitcoin to Kusama via kBTC — the first fully decentralized and economically trustless 1:1 BTC-backed asset. Users can always redeem kBTC for BTC, or will be reimbursed in collaterals at a beneficial rate — as such, users only trust that Bitcoin and Kusama are secure. kBTC will help kickstart liquidity on parachains such as Karura, Moonriver, Shiden — and offer new BTC DeFi products.
