1、What role will Parity and Web3 Foundation play in the Web 3.0 Bootcamp?
Yaoqi: Web3 Foundation and Parity are the primary leaders to organize and support the Web 3.0 Bootcamp program. We are going to provide various support as below:
Firstly, lecture and training. There will be online and offline Polkadot/Substrate technical lectures, including runtime development, off-chain workers, parachain/parathread, validator setup, Polkadot economics and so on.
Secondly, regular communication and discussion. There will be 8 to 12 hours of technical discussion sessions per week along with other support for all the participating teams.
Thirdly, funding application. We will connect the participating teams with Web3 grant, Web3 ecosystem fund, and other investor networks.
Fourthly, global marketing. We’ll introduce selected teams to participate in Parity and foundation’s global activities, including DemoDay, DotCon/DotDay, Sub0, Web3 Summit, Polkadot/Substrate meet-ups and so on.
Fifthly, resources sharing. There will be community and market support of Polkadot and Substrate’s ecosystem for teams, such as inviting teams to participate in Polkadot/Substrate’s online and offline activities in Asia.
Meanwhile, comprehensive support from various perspectives of technology, product, legal affair, ecosystem and so on will be available to support the team for the development.
2、What is the relationship between Web 3.0 Bootcamp and Polkadot? How would the Bootcamp program help Polkadot?
Yaoqi: The Web 3.0 Bootcamp aims to build blockchain platforms and applications based on Substrate for Polkadot ecosystem, incubates skillful teams with reliable Polkadot ecosystem projects and encourages them to connect to Polkadot as parachains/parathreads eventually. With this Bootcamp program, we are able to advocate more developers and users to be aware of and eventually use Polkadot network and Substrate, as well as grow and enrich the developer community and ecosystem. So to say, Web 3.0 Bootcamp is a substantial part of the Polkadot ecosystem and it will also energize and promote the development of the Polkadot network.
3、Do you have any requirements for the maturity of the projects for the Bootcamp? Would a project at least be matured to a certain stage such as with published whitepaper?
Yaoqi: As long as a team has clear ideas about the system and product direction, completed technical whitepaper and great execution, we welcome them to apply for the Bootcamp program no matter what the stage they are in. For the teams who have already developed products and currently have the plan to migrate to Substrate, we are more than happy to give our support in the Bootcamp.
4、In the last AMA, it was mentioned that projects aligned with the directions and strategy of Web 3.0 are welcome to apply. Would you please tell us what are the specific directions?
Yaoqi: Decentralized storage, decentralized computation, privacy-preserving services, open finance, identity, social network, media advertisement, gaming and so on are some of the strategic directions in our consideration. In a quick summary anything beneficial to the development of Polkadot technology and ecosystem is welcome.
5、After the Bootcamp program, the participating projects can grow independently or will need to stay in Polkadot’s ecosystem?
Yaoqi: After the Bootcamp, Web3 Foundation and Parity will continue offering support of technology, product, and others for teams. We hope all participating projects can continue to be in the Polkadot ecosystem after the Bootcamp program. Together we can grow the community.
6、Will participating projects of Web 3.0 Bootcamp be connected to Polkadot as parachains? Is there any support provided by Web 3.0 Foundation or Parity?
Yaoqi: Of course! One of Web 3.0 Bootcamp’s goals is to cultivate excellent Polkadot ecosystem projects that will eventually become parachains. All teams interested in becoming parachains are extremely welcome to apply and we will help these teams to apply for Web3 Grant and become parachains or parathreads in the future.
7、There are multiple programs supporting Substrate from Parity and Web3 Foundation, such as the Substrate Builder Program and Web3 Grant. How is Web 3.0 Bootcamp different from the above?
Yaoqi: All of the above-mentioned programs are a part of the plan of Web3 Foundation and Parity to develop the ecosystem. We have one goal and that is to promote the global adoption of Polkadot and Substrate. However, there are slightly different focuses of different programs. For example, the Substrate Builder Program is focused on relatively mature projects and teams globally. Web3 Grant mainly offers grants for community teams to develop crucial elements and systems for Polkadot and Substrate. Web 3.0 Bootcamp is more focused on high-quality teams and novel products. We offer support of technology training, resource sharing, fundraising, legal consulting and so on, to create more candidates for parachain and parathread in the Polkadot ecosystem. For those already have participated in the Substrate Builder Program and Web3 Grant, you are welcome to apply for Web 3.0 Bootcamp as well.
8、What are the other requirements that Parity and Web3 Foundation will consider while selecting Web 3.0 Bootcamp teams?
Yaoqi: Firstly, they should be based on Substrate. We hope all projects and teams can build a system or product based on Substrate. Besides, it is better that they plan to develop continuously on Polkadot in the future and connect with Polkadot as parachains or parathreads.
Secondly, they should be creative. In the blockchain space, community members and investors could be very picky about the project’s innovation. Novel ideas will attract a number of community members to participate and invest. Novelty can be reflected in new concepts like MakerDAO, new technology like Zk-snark), new business models such as DEX and so on.
Thirdly, they plan to expand to China. The Bootcamp is co-initiated with Wanxiang Blockchain Labs. Wanxiang Blockchain Labs will provide all teams with a number of resources to blend in the Wanxiang Blockchain’s open ecosystem so as to collaborate in technology, product, market, capital and other fields. Teams can take advantage of the resources provided by Bootcamp to develop systems and products more suitable for Chinese developers and users.
Fourthly, they should be representative. Currently, we are considering directions including decentralized storage, decentralized computation, privacy, open finance, identity, social network, media advertisement, game and so on. To diversify the Polkadot ecosystem and guarantee more features for developers and users to use after the mainnet launch, we will select teams with the most special characteristics and representativeness for different directions.
Fifthly, they are irreplaceable. We will evaluate whether the project is what Polkadot/Substrate is currently missing and whether it is important or not.
Sixthly, they must have solid technology. According to the white paper or technical documentation, we will assess whether there is solid technology, which is secure and executable without any potential problems.
Seventhly, they have a strong executive team. Besides innovation and technology, a project still needs a strong team to execute the plan and achieve the roadmap. The key team members’ technical background and blockchain experience will be a plus.
Eighthly, their system or product should have promising adoption. The final goal of a project is to attract developers and users to use. It is important that the project has a huge potential market and can attract a number of users as a parachain or parathread.
