Polkadot ambassadors in China:Although I didn't get a ticket for Gavin’s meetup, but become an ambassador of Polkadot!
“When I think something is really wonderful, I will share it with others. So, for a blockchain development framework like Substrate, I want to share more developers so much.Cause this is really useful when we want to build our own blockchain.”
——Liquan Feng : Technical ambassador, Substrate developer, BTCU core member.
1. Why did you want to be a Polkadot ambassador?
Liquan Feng:There are several reasons. One is my love for blockchain. When I first learn blockchain, I was attracted by the spirit of decentralization. Later, I learn Ethereum, and the “world computer”, “code is law” and other concepts, which made me agree very much. So I have been doing some development in Ethereum since then.
The second is my recognition of Polkadot. In fact, I was a fan of Gavin from an early age. He has made great contributions to Ethereum. He explained that Ethereum is a real global singleton with strong anti risk (cannot fail, be stopped, be ignored) [1], which make me so expressive.
So when he start Polkadot, it's naturally to care this new project for me. I remember Gavin shared Polkadot governance in Neutrino Blockchain Space in December 2018 in Beijing. I was in Shanghai at that time. If I had a ticket, I would go to Beijing to meet the TechGod in face. Hhhh, but I didn’t get a ticket at last. I watched the video eventually.
Then I found that Polkadot is not only a concept, but has a lot of things need to learn. So in early 2019, I began to learn Rust and Substrate. Moreover, the documents are well written and friendly to learners. And workshops held by PolkaWorld is also very helpful! And I like the visions of Polkadot and Web 3.0.
Third, I also have a sharing mentality. When I think something is really wonderful, I will share it with others. So, for a blockchain development framework like Substrate, I want to share more developers so much.Cause this is really useful when we want to build our own blockchain. Since being Ambassador, I can do this better!
Fourth, I believe that becoming Ambassador will bring me more and better opportunities for growth and exercise in the future.
2. What have you done during the Ambassador Apprentice period?
Liquan Feng:I was previously involved in the construction of the BTCU community, including teaching some technology, explaining questions, and answering questions related to blockchain development. The members of the BTCU community are mainly college students; so i also wrote some articles related to the development of Polkadot and Substrate.
3.How do you like the communication with the Web3 Foundation or Polkadot team?
Liquan Feng:Well, it’s include a lot, such as reading their documentation, learning their code, listening to their presentations, and chatting with them. I really feel the team are pragmatic, and speaking this I want to praise their documentation. Whether it ’s Polkadot’s partial engineering example, annotated documents, or the theoretical documentation of the Web 3 Foundation ’s partial research, they are all detailed, clear, and even reminiscent of Donald Knuth ’s sentence: “When I learned to program, you were lucky if you got five minutes with the machine a day. If you wanted to get the program going, it just had to be written right. So people just learned to program like it was carving stone. You sort of have to sidle up to it. That’s how I learned to program.”[2] Polkadot’s documentation is simply art! And the team are good technology and approachable.
4. What do you think is the most powerful part of Polkadot?
Liquan Feng:Polkadot’s team. Many of their teams have been deeply involved in other blockchain projects before, and they definitely have a deeper understanding and thinking about the problems encountered in the current blockchain world, so they can give better solutions.
5. From your perspective, what kind of things do you think will help Polkadot develop better?
Liquan Feng:The participation of more developers and the emergence of more eco projects will definitely make Polkadot ecosystem more prosperous.
